Fairness, accuracy and media
coverage of lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender issues
Bristol NUJ is supporting an important event to discuss how the media handles issues concerning lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
NUJ member and University of West of England lecturer Mike Jempson will be on the discussion panel at the Watershed on February 24 along with the NUJ’s national equality officer Lena Calvert and freelance journalist Darryl Bullock.
They will be joined by Will Gore, public affairs director of the Press Complaints Commission, and Katy Ladbroke of Bristol’s Representations of Women in the Media group. Katy is also a Bristol NUJ member and until recently was the branch’s equality officer.
This is a subject is often overlooked but which concerns all journalists whatever medium they work in.
We urge all Bristol journalists to attend if they can.
Entry is free and it’s on Wednesday 24 February, 7pm–8:30pm at the Watershed Media Centre, 1 Canon’s Road, Bristol BS1 5TX.
Places are limited and should be booked in advance: email rainbow@bristol.gov.uk or calll 0117 922 2748, or email info@mediawise.org.uk or 0117 939 9333 (leave name if answerphone).
