Bristol NUJ is holding a session called How To Be A Freelance on Saturday August 18th, probably from 10.30am-1pm, venue and exact time to be decided soon.
It is mainly aimed at those recently made redundant from the Evening Post, but is open to all. It’s free to members with a small charge for non-members.
The idea is that several branch members with freelance experience in PR, writing, photography, editing, new media, hyperlocal publications and more will share their experience with those new to freelancing
We’ll hear from people who have set up their own publications, people working for charities, national media, trade publications, and some making income outside journalism.
We’ll also include practical tips on matters like tax, and the value of networking and marketing in finding work.
Several people have already signed up – it’s open to members and non-members, though there will be a small charge for non-members.
If you’re interested, please let me know at p.breeden@blueyonder.co.uk. We also hope to have a national NUJ official present.
