STUDENTS on journalism courses at the University of the West of England have been told the winners in the annual Bristol NUJ student awards.
Prizes are given to the best pieces of investigative work by students in each year at UWE – first, second, third and MA level.
Each is given a £50 prize – some of which were presented at the university’s graduation ceremony on July 13.
Winner of the first year award was Tessa Urlwin for her well laid-out news and feature pages. Particularly appreciated was her well-written feature on a labour-of-love bicycle business.
Martin White and Boris Siramohov took the honours in the second year with their impassioned football film.
Laura Stevenson was a clear winner for the third years with a lengthy and brave feature on mistreatment of migrant workers in Abu Dhabi.
And Lila Guha triumphed in the MA section, producing print layouts of a high standard, especially her feature on women’s rugby.
“Once again we had a very high standard of entries. Congratulations to all those who won and we look forward to seeing even better things next year,” said Bristol NUJ chair Paul Breeden.
The remaining prizes will be presented at the beginning of the autumn term.
