The BBC are holding a national strike, Thursday 28 March, for 12 hours from 12 noon.   There will be a picket line at BBC Bristol offices at the Whiteladies Road and Belgrave Road entrances, so please come and show your support at 12 noon.

This strike is a joint one with the broadcasting union BECTU.  The NUJ says that the action is a consequence of the BBC’s so-called Delivering Quality First cost cutting programme, which proposes to cut 2000 jobs across the corporation.  The strike is over the issues of compulsory redundancies, excessive workloads and bullying and harrassment within the corporation.  For more information please see the NUJ website.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary said: “Members are taking strike action next week in a clear message to the BBC that it needs to listen to its staff and properly address the problems created by their ill-conceived and badly implemented cuts programme.  It is disappointing that once again the BBC has decided not to properly engage, refusing our call for a moratorium to give space for meaningful discussions on the worrying impact of the cuts.”
