Tell BBC Trust, stop the cuts; BBC Bristol; 25 May; 12.50pm.

Members of Bristol Branch NUJ joined colleagues from the BBC at a flashmob protest against BBC cutbacks at Bristol’s Broadcasting House on Monday.

The event was also well supported by members of the public who object to threats to the future of BBC 6Music and BBC Asian Network.

The deadline for public consultation on the BBC Trust’s Strategy Review ended on Tuesday 25 May.

The BBC is planning savage cuts to BBC magazines like the Radio Times, and to 6Music and the BBC Asian Network. The plans also include staffing cuts, with up to 600 jobs are under threat.

The NUJ believes the BBC must focus on strengthening and improving its services, not cutting back. There has been significant opposition to the proposals already and these events were planned to mark the end of the consultation process.

The NUJ wants to give the Trust a clear message that audiences and staff won’t stand for the cuts.
